Now before you go rolling your eyes this isn’t really a Woman Crush Wednesday post like you’d generally think. Because I mean I’m gay, and I don’t really have crushes on women. Unless they look like men, then the lines get blurry, but that’s another post for another day. If you follow me on Twitter you may or may not have seen a tweet about Sia yesterday. Something along the lines of wanting to be the Sia of the blogging world. Some followers asked if by that I meant swinging from chandeliers, which of course is a total viable option as well, but I wanted to elaborate a bit more on what I actually meant. Since my attempt at elaboration happens to fall on a Wednesday I thought this post title would work nicely.

While I do love and admire Sia for things like her music – I mean “Breathe Me” still gives me all the feels – the real reason I’m crushing on her in today’s post is because I want to be like her when I grow up. No, this isn’t my way of coming out of the closet as a transgender blogger. It’s my way of saying that I admire her for making her career about her music, not about the fame.

I’ve been a fan of Sia for years, long before she actually became popular (I know we all say that, but really I mean it.) She’s the words behind some of the biggest pop hits of our generation like Rihanna’s Diamonds, Beyoncé’s Pretty Hurts, and Britney Spear’s Perfume to name a few, but when she graced the cover of Billboard Magazine last year she wore a paper bag over her face. What’s scrawled across that paper bag is what had me falling a little in love with her. “This artist is responsible for over 12 million track sales, has a new single on the Hunger Games soundtrack, and doesn’t want to be famous..” In this world we live in everyone is so focused on having more Instagram followers than their rival, or landing a bigger feature with a brand that we often times forget why we started doing this.

Don’t get me wrong I love getting new Instagram followers as much as the next guy, but I’m not doing it to become internet famous. I’m doing it because I’ve finally found what I love doing. I love documenting and sharing my life with others – where I eat and drink, what I wear, and where I’m headed. There are so many bloggers out there – and people in general – that have sold out for the fame. They’ve become so money hungry that they lose the spark that got them started, forget what it’s like to be on the bottom, and most importantly lose their authenticity. In my quest of becoming a better blogger, man, and human being I hope to follow in Sia’s footsteps of doing something because I love it, not in hopes that it’ll make me famous.

Like I’ve said before and will say countless times again if I can make someone else’s journey a little easier – whether that be by way of figuring out what to wear, where to eat/drink/have fun in Louisville, or help/advice of any sort – then what I set out to do here will be accomplished. Betcha never thought a #WCW post could get that serious, did ya?
