“Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.”
I’m always surprised by the connections that Instagram affords me. Some people rag on me for spending so much time on my phone (sorry Mom and Dad, I’ve gotta network somehow), but it’s been a huge asset to me with getting The Kentucky Gent’s brand up and running. While I always love the opportunity to connect with other grammers and brands that I wouldn’t normally meet on a day to day basis; what I love even more than that is the chance to connect with other like minded Kentucky residents.
In the spring of 2014, a grass roots initiative to raise awareness of small business owners in Kentucky was formed. This initiative came to be known as Shop Local Kentucky. Their goal is to raise awareness of local independent shopping in the state. What originally began as an idea stemming from one piece of research, quickly grew into a statewide effort.
I’ve been following along with the Shop Local Kentucky Instagram since inception, and I’m incredibly proud to be working on this post with them. Kentucky may not be California or New York, but we’re jam packed with forward thinking movers and shakers who are out to leave their mark on the world while showing that Kentucky is more than what people assume. If you remember that is exactly why I started this blog. While the site has certainly grown and evolved since conception, at the end of the day it’s still my platform to leave my mark.
This Holiday season remember to shop small and support local businesses, and if you’re in the Louisville area you can head over to TheKYShop.com to finish up your Christmas shopping.
