It’s official! I’m on a plane and en route to NYFWM (New York Fashion Week: Men’s), and because of that I’m sharing a special edition of Saturday Shop to give y’all an insider’s perspective on what to pack when heading to Fashion Week. Plus there’s an added value bonus this week, as all my selects are part of the #NSale. In other words, it’s a win, win.
The first couple of times I went to the shows I packed WAY too much, and by too much I mean at least one extra bag. This trip I managed to fit everything into one carry-on bag, and that left me feeling a bit nervous but also proud – not gonna lie. You’re probably wondering how the hell I managed to pull that off, and I’ll admit I was a little skeptical at first as well, but garment bags are the way to go. Not only do your clothes end up less wrinkled since they’re on hangers, but they also take up a lot less room when you’re trying to fold them up. Other than that here a few things to keep in mind when packing for a trip like this.
Plan Ahead
When I was packing I took the time to pick out each outfit I’m going to be wearing (and tried on to make sure I actually liked it), and hung all the pieces together on a hanger. This way all I have to do each night before bed is grab my hanger for the next day, and I’m ready to go. I do have a couple alternate shirts just in case something does quite work out morning of, but just as back ups not as a crutch.
Stick To A Tonal Family
This makes mixing and matching pieces that you packed so much easier, just in case something doesn’t quite work out the way you planned it morning of. Plus it helps keep your look cohesive throughout the week. I did throw in one wildcard outfit to break things up, but otherwise I only packed black, white, khaki, and grey.
Do You
NEVER, I repeat NEVER, let anyone else try to tell you what to wear. Obviously, if there’s a dress code for an event or dinner, keep that in mind, but otherwise stay true to your personal style. You scored an invite for a reason, never forget that.
