“New Year New You” will be the mantra for for most of us after tonight, but for now let’s remember that it’s the last day of 2014. While we’re doing that I’m gonna be sitting here wondering where the hell the year went. It seems like yesterday I was exploring LA, tackling my first NYFW, leaving a job that I hated to work at and starting up at another job that I hated just as much, to working from home wondering where my next paycheck will come from. I’d be lying if I said last year wasn’t one of the of the most trying yet rewarding years of my life. It’s true what they say, we’re our own worst enemy. I stood in my own way more than I care to admit, but I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t. Instead of dwelling on how good, bad, or indifferent I feel about 2014 I’m going to share some of my goals for 2015.

  • Treat “The Kentucky Gent” and all that it entails as a business. That means properly investing my time and energy into projects and collaborations that perfectly align with my brand and mission, charging appropriately for said time and energy – I love you all, but daddy has got to pay his bills too, and most of all allowing myself to grow.
  • Run my first full marathon. This was originally planned for 2014, but my personal life got in the way a little bit. I’ll be working with Norton Healthcare in 2015 to track and document my training and in turn creating some stellar content to share with you all.
  • Weed out negative influences/influencers in my life; whether that be new or old friends, bad habits, or negative behaviors.
  • Be more present by putting down my phone and taking a minute to smell the roses.
  • Travel more often, even when I can’t afford it.
  • Smile, even when I’m having a bad day. Because I’m one hell of a lucky guy.
  • Resolve to never give up. I’ve got lofty goals, big dreams, and ambition; and I won’t stop until I make it.
  • Plan better. As I get older I learn more and more about what does and doesn’t work for me. If I ever want to make any of the above things happen I have to plan it out.

That’s a cliff notes version of what I’m working on for 2015, and in my last post for 2014 I’m leaving you with some advice that I was given and didn’t full understand until recently. Life is like driving a car. When you spend too much time looking in your rearview mirror you’ll either end up right where you came from or in the ditch, we’re better off keeping our eyes on what’s ahead.

If you’re looking for some reading material to start your new year off on the right foot or for some other motivational tidbits like this one try Be Nice (Or Else) and what’s in it for you – don’t knock it until you try it.
