It’s no secret that I seriously love living in Louisville, and today I’m sharing a few of my favorite Louisville local spots around town in conjunction with the release of the latest Taste Buds YouTube video (which you can watch at the end of this post.) The series highlights destination cities within the U.S., featuring great local spots in 8 cities total. The Taste Buds girls have already shared the spots to check out in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Austin, and today the New Orleans’ episode goes live!
Since the weekend is basically so close that I can almost taste the brunch at The Silver Dollar I’m going to share the best local spots to spend your weekend in Louisville. Starting with brunch at my favorite spot, followed by coffee and wandering around my favorite hood.
The Silver Dollar: If you follow along with me on Instagram at all then you’ve seen one or two photos of how good the food is at this place. Besides killer breakfast options like Flank + Eggs with coffee rubbed steak or their Huevos Rancheros they also make the best Bloody Mary in town. If you’re into outdoor dining, then their back patio has your name all over it. They serve up brunch from 10 until 3, and with the weather warming up I’d recommend heading over to Open Table to add your name to the waiting list before heading to the restaurant, or if you’re like me just sit at the bar drinking Bloody Mary’s until a table opens up, no one will judge you – I promise.
After brunch it’s time to walk off all those carbs and enjoy the sights of sounds that locals have dubbed NuLu, and you can’t visit NuLu without first stopping at Please & Thank You for a coffee and one of the best chocolate chip cookies in town.
Please & Thank You: Another constant in my Instagram feed would be this place. Besides being home to one of the best cookies in town (besides my own), they’re also a great place to grab a coffee, check out some records, or get some work done. But on the weekends they’re home to any and all of the folks that are wandering around NuLu.
Revelry Boutique Gallery: NuLu is also home to some of the best shopping in town, and the best part about it? It’s all local, cause you know #KeepLouisvilleWeird. One of my favorites is Revelry and for a good reason – actually several good reasons. First and foremost, the lady behind the magic, Mo. She’s seriously an all around bad-ass, and is a young person in Louisville seriously moving and grooving her way up the ladders around town. Secondly, the seriously impressive curation of local artists’ work that line the walls. Last but not least, Major, the shop’s adorable mascot.
Besides all of the above, there’s new boutiques opening all the time like Bermuda Highway, a shop opened in part by one of the girls from Houndmouth, and interactive art walls like this Before I Die wall. But really, this is just one way to spend a day in Louisville. I could turn this into a whole series in and of itself, which who knows.. maybe that’ll happen, but until then here’s the latest Taste Buds video.
