Chocolate Sugar Cookies

The Kentucky Gent, a Louisville, Kentucky based men's life and style blogger, shares hie recipe for Chocolate Sugar Cookies.

Typically I’m not one to mess with tradition. Hell, I mean my go-to recipes include Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chicken Noodle Soup for god’s sake. But when I ran across this recipe for Chocolate Sugar Cookies I couldn’t pass it up, and boy was I glad that I didn’t.

What’s better than combining two of my favorite things: chocolate and chewy sugar cookies into one bite? Dipping said cookie into a glass of cold milk.

Don’t just take my word for it though, they’re incredibly easy to make, and I’m willing to bet that you’ve got everything you need to whip these up chilling in your kitchen cabinets already.

Speaking of go-to recipes, what are your all’s go-tos? Sound off in the comments below, and let me know if I should add one or two to my arsenal. Who knows, maybe you’ll even see an adaptation of your recipe right here one day.

P.S. Sorry for the photos, or lack there of this post. I was running late for Christmas Eve with the family and didn’t have time to take the plethora of photos that I normally do. I’m working on being on time AND being more present in 2015, looks like I got a head start on both.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
  • 1 3/4 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Put the sugar on a plate or shallow dish and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
  • Add the egg and egg yolk, and mix until combined.
  • Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder, and mix until just combined, the dough should be relatively stiff.
  • Roll the dough into 20-24 balls (about 2 tablespoons each).
  • Roll each ball in the sugar, then place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  • Bake 12-14 minutes, or until the cookies have puffed up and cracked.

NOTES

  • If dough is too sticky to roll into balls pop it into the freezer for roughly 30 minutes.
