Some days it’s black and white, other days not so much. One thing however that is always black and white is my struggle with my body, my weight most specifically. I’ll be the first to say that it is hard being a guy in the industry I’m in that isn’t A) incredibly skinny or B) built like a model. It’s something I’ve always struggled with, and I think a lot of it has to do with being a “chubby” kid growing up. It’s an incredibly hard feeling to ever fully shake, especially when you’re in front of the camera all the time.
Truth be told we hear a lot about women and how the media portrays that they have to be model thin, but we very, very seldom hear that about the fact that it’s just as hard for the guys out there. Maybe even harder actually. I mean, think of your favorite TV show. You’ve got the thin girls, the curvy girls, and some girls that fall in between. But as far as the guys go, you’ve got the fit guys and the fat guys. There’s never an in between. While women’s fashion is embracing the “plus size” industry, male models still have 6 packs and not an ounce of fat on their bodies. I’m sure I’m not the only guy who feels this way, and I know far more guys in real life that are average joe’s rather than Greek gods. So this is for those guys that fall somewhere in the middle to know that just because you don’t have the perfect body doesn’t mean you aren’t attractive. Societies views on the matter are more than just a little skewed.
Moral of the story: there are some days I can wear a shirt and feel slim and trim, and the very next week I feel like a beached whale. The struggle is just as real for women as it is men, most men just aren’t as open about it as women are. Case in point, this shirt. Slub cotton shirts are great for Summer cause they breathe really well, but if you’re feeling bloated in the slightest take my word for it and don’t wear them. Also, order a size up, because even if you follow instructions they WILL shrink.
Also, like I said yesterday I’m headed to Lexington today to meet with Shop Local Kentucky about a concept I’m working on with Kentucky Tourism that’ll be happening in Nashville on June 4th. Follow along on Instagram + SnapChat @TheKentuckyGent to find out more!
