Even as a guy with a fairly decent complexion I did go through my teenager years with what seemed to me like very serious breakouts. My skin is still one of the biggest areas of insecurity especially when shooting photos or attending an event. Today I partnered up with my friends at Primary Cosmetics to demonstrate that yes, guys can wear makeup too. The trick for us fellas is to keep it simple. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing makeup. Typically concealer under the eyes and in problems areas to even out complexion will do the trick. As you can see in the above left picture my skin has a few imperfections, in my defense they plucked my eyebrows right before that shot; I’m a little more red than usual. Whereas on the right my complexion has been evened out. Just a few little things can help you look your best whether in front of the camera or if your’e walking down the runway! Makeup in every day life for men can be a little much, but I’m not against covering up a blemish or dark circles under your eyes before heading out for the day if it can help improve how you feel about yourself.
Primary Cosmetics is another incredible local Louisville business, didn’t I tell you the city was full of incredible talent?! Started by my dear friend, teacher, mentor, and fellow dreamer Terrell Shields, their mission is to provide a quality product to the licensed professional in the beauty, barber and medical industry. Their goal is to provide a high quality cosmetic line at reasonable cost. Primary Cosmetics is not just a brand… it’s a lifestyle of hard working professionals. I have another shoot with them in the works later this month; be sure to keep an eye out for that.
Tell me your thoughts on men in makeup? What do you think? Is it ok when in front of the camera, or do you think guys should shy away from improving their appearance in manners like this?
Stylishly Yours,
