Growing Pains

As I begin to finalize my NYFW scheduleΒ – while simultaneouslyΒ starting to freak out over having nothing to wear – I realized a couple of things. First off, I’ve cameΒ a long way in the past year, and lost some followers/friendsΒ in the process. Something that was made pretty evident to me this week as I lost Instagram follower after Instagram follower, and I’m not gonna lie – it frustrated me more than it probably should have.

Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not sitting by my phone constantly checking my follower count, but I do check it after I see a couple of new followers pop up in my notifications. Some days I gain more than others, but almost always I lose just as many (if not more.) This week I’ve definitely lost more followers than I’ve gained, and at first it made me wonder what I was doing wrongly. Then after a long run and hot shower a lightbulb went off. I’m not doing anything wrongly, and neither are the people who are unfollowing me. They followed me for one reason or another, but each and every day I’m fine tuning this little blog of mine, which includes my social media handles, and they may not like the direction The Kentucky Gent is taking. Honestly, I’m more than ok with that (even though at first I wasn’t.) As I’m sure you can tell of the past few weeks my content has shifted from strictly fashion focusedΒ to a more well-rounded lifestyle blog.

I realized at the beginning of the year that I wasn’t here to share fashion advice, or tell you why you should buy one shirt over the other; instead I wanted to share bits and pieces of my life, tell stories, and build a community of like minded folk. It seems like everyone in this day and age has a fashion blog, and while I love the fashion and clothing aspect of this blogΒ the real reason I started it was to have a creative outlet where I could share my thoughts, feelings, and story. I got a little lost along the way, but this year is off to a great start – even with my fair share of growing pains.
