After completing The Bourbon Chase this weekend I’m more than ready for a breather, but also I’m looking at this week in a whole new light after being part of a 200 mile relay race through Bourbon Country.
My team was one of the 400 teams that raced, cheered, and all together kicked ass this weekend. Going into the race I didn’t realize what I was really getting myself into. Sure, I realized it would be an incredibly hard and long fought race, but I also didn’t realize what I’d experience once I crossed that finish line.
It helped me realize a lot of things. I guess you could say it was a spiritual experience of sorts. After you complete a race of this magnitude you realize that literally nothing is out of reach. It also helps you realize that having a team behind you is imperative to being a success, but it also helps you realize that having the right team behind you is equally as imperative. There’s something about having a group of new friends and old friends standing in 30 degree weather at 2 am in the middle of nowhere cheering you on that makes you understand the importance of having friends that always have your back, not just when it’s convenient for them.
