So – I’ll admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of the whole “tying a plaid shirt around your waist” look at first. But before I knew it, it was popping up everywhere. From girls with daisy dukes to guys with their joggers. This sweatshirt is a great example of why this can work out so well. I just picked up this great new sweatshirt from Defyant Clothing and wanted to fit it into an outfit post. The rose details are what I wanted to show off; so layering up was almost out of the question. But I really wanted to throw in a plaid shirt – and after some perusing online it hit me to just tie it around my waist. It worked – really well if I do say so myself. Epitome of 90’s grunge with the black, red, and denim color scheme and a definite winner in my books.

After doing some thinking over the weekend I realized that I had started to emulate other male bloggers that were doing well, donning a blazer or snazzy button up, trying to put my spin on dapper. But when it comes down to it, that’s just not me. It’s certainly not why I started this blog either. I started The Kentucky Gent because as a guy who dresses pretty far to the left, I never had a go to style blog online. Granted – a lot of the other male bloggers throw in a “grunge” outfit here or there, or keep it casual for a weekend look, but their regular attire is tailored, structured outfits. After the success of Saturday’s post, I did a little soul searching, and decided to stay true to my aesthetic. I’m a big believer that nothing should ever feel forced, and some outfits were beginning to feel that way. Today’s outfit is me – tall, lanky, quirky, awkward Me.
