“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking that you have something to lose. You are already naked. There’s no reason not to follow your heart.”
Before I die I want to live the life I’m meant to live. On paper it seems incredibly plain and simple. Cut and dry. But at the end of the day, it isn’t. It’s the most complicated thing I’ve ever had to face. My heart tells me to take risks, be young, be foolish, be brave; while my head tells me the exact opposite. It’s a constant push and pull, but I know I’ll be a better man because of it. A man with grey hair maybe, but a better man none the less.
This area is Nulu is one of my favorites; for obvious reasons like Please & Thank You and Garage Bar, and for not so obvious reasons like the Before I Die installment. Before I Die is a global art project that invites people to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in public space. This project was started by Candy Chang on an abandoned house in New Orleans after she lost someone she loved.
Whenever I’m down in the area grabbing a cup of joe, which if you follow me on Instagram you know is quite often, I always make a pit stop to read what’s been added recently. Next time you’re in the area stop by and do the same. Take a minute to see what the rest of Louisville aims to do with their lives.
