Dillard's Present Runway For The Roses With NFocus Louisville and Gunnar Deathrage of Project Runway

Runway For The Roses

Dillard’s, the official hat provider of the Kentucky Derby Festival, presents Runway for the Roses at the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, Ballroom #3 on April 2nd. In collaboration with Gunnar Deatherage and Nfocus Magazine, Dillard’s Runway for the Roses promises to be a theatrical fashion event that creatively juxtaposes Derby season’s hottest fashions with a fresh take on what we traditionally see for Derby. “We are going to take a theatrical and introspective look at the phenomenon we call Derby,” says Nfocus Fashion Editor Gunnar Deatherage. “Last year, we did a hybrid event with film. This year, the genre is theater. Like last year, you can expect some amazing live music. As for all other aspects, expect the unexpected.” He also let us in on a little secret, this show will be more about the art of it all, with fashion being the medium he chose to tell their story of Derby. Other sponsors include Bluegrass Motor Sports, Cellar Door, Four Roses Bourbon, GetOutLouisville.com, Glass Label, Highland Cleaners, Korbel, Lavender Hill, Lenihan Sotheby’s International Realty, Lite 106.9, Massage Envy, Norton Commons, Oak Street Productions, Old 502 Winery, Physician’s Center for Beauty, Tito’s Handmade Vodka & West Sixth Brewing. This is a 21+ event and tickets are non-refundable, General Admission tickets are $35 and VIP tickets are $60….

The Guide To An Unconventional Valentines Day

With all the madness that was NYFW I almost forget that the “Holiday” that some dread and others look forward to all year long is right around the corner. The dozen red roses and boxes of chocolates have seen their time in the limelight, now it’s time to put a little more thought and effort into it. The older I’ve become the more I have realized that it’s seriously the thought that counts. If you take your time and plan out a special Valentines Day surprise for your loved one, it will make it something that’s guaranteed to be remembered.  10. Romantic Weekend Getaway Taking a weekend trip and getting out of town is exactly what the Doctor ordered. Keep an eye out for special packages on sites like Groupon or Living Social for trips to wineries or a small bed and breakfast for an unforgettable weekend. Turn your phones off once you’re there to focus on spending the weekend getting closer as a couple. Plan ahead and make sure you talk to their work to clue them in on your secret agenda. That way they’ll have nothing to worry about back home.  9. Flowers Time to mix it up a…

My First NYFW

Thanks to a big leap of faith and some networking in Louisville I’ll be attending my first NYFW. I’m a bundle of mixed emotions, alongside a serious cold that’s decided to wreck me. I’m mostly excited, with a hint of nervous as well. I’ve spent the past several days running last minute errands and doing some much needed shopping. One of the hardest things about being from Louisville when prepping for an event like this is there aren’t many men’s boutiques to work with for samples or help with outfits. Keeping my fingers crossed for making some connections for the September shows while in New York though! The blog will be quiet for the next few days as I finishing packing and running errands, but I fly into The Big Apple on Wednesday for DETAILS Magazine’s March Cover Issue party so I’ll be making up for that then. Shows start bright and early on Thursday! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter to keep up to date with all my adventures at NYFW. #TheKentuckyGentDoesNYFW Take a look at the Street Style looks below to see inspiration for some of my looks for the coming week. I’m thinking patterns,…

Milan Fashion Week Recap

DSquared2 Hats off to Dean and Dan for this incredible collection. DSquared2 is one show that I ALWAYS look forward to every season. I loved their play on “Orange Is The New Black” in this show. They took inmate chic to a whole new level. One of my favorite things about their label is the use of denim. It’s prominent in every season of theirs, but is always updated. I must saw the straight jacket look at the end was also one of my favorite. John Varvatos In typical John Varvatos style the boys walked down the runway in all black looks. The team incorporated leathers and metallics perfectly to update their signature looks. The KISS makeup on the models definitely made this a runway show to remember. Missoni Missoni’s use of patterns, textures, and prints are what always sets them apart on the runway from other shows. I’m especially love the layering of button up sweaters with full zips in different patterns, and how could you not love those fuzzy Birkenstocks?! Just remember – not everything you see on the runway is meant to be worn in real life, but those shoes looks great on the runway. Woolrich John…
