Cinco de Derby

The best two weeks to call Louisville home are upon us, y’all! yes, you read that right. We party for a full two weeks leading up to Derby. The official kick off for Derby season was last weekend with Thunder Over Louisville. This Derby is going to be doubly as fun though. Why? Because it also happens to land on Cinco De Mayo! Which means there’s literally no better way to celebrate than with a margarita or two. Not just any margarita though, it is Derby season after all, but with one of the seven margaritas that are in the running this year for Patrón’s Margarita of the Year competition. In typical fashion they rounded up margaritas that offer a refreshing twist on the iconic cocktail. This marks the fourth year that Patrón Tequila embarked on its search for the margarita of the year. And I’m constantly blown away by the innovative cocktails they’re able to find. Like the one I’m sharing today for instance. A tomato margarita? I know, I know. It sounds crazy, but it’s easily one of the best I’ve had before. Safe to say, it’ll be on heavy repeat around my house during the summer. The “Search for…

The following content is intended for readers who are 21 or older. #CollectiveBias #TheWhiskey5 Today’s post may come as a surprise. I wasn’t always the biggest bourbon fan. Yes, it’s true. That makes me a bad Kentuckiana, but on the positive side I am now. So I’ll break down why I wasn’t before because I’m sure a few of you are or have been in the same boat. To be honest I was intimidated by bourbon in the past. The taste, the flavor profile, and the darkness of the actual spirit caused me to pause. But luckily my tastes have evolved over the years. Mostly thanks to the craft cocktail culture that is consistently growing in Louisville. If you can relate then you’re in luck! Diageo recently introduced a new service by the name of that takes the guesswork out of my favorite spirit. All you have to do is answer a few questions, and it tells you what bourbon fits you the best. And trust me when I say it is spot on. For me bold, smooth spirits take the bat, and…

Perfect Poolside Companion

Disclosure: This post is brought to you by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CincoDeCayman #CollectiveBias Y’all! I’m mostly officially moved into the new place. Praise God. While I’m not 100% head over heels for it, yet, I do love it so far. More on why I don’t love it coming soon to a blog near you, but there are plenty of reasons to love it already. Like, a pool right out my front door. Can anyone say mid-workday pool breaks? Cause I sure can!  And speaking of those breaks, a Cayman Jack Margarita makes for the perfect poolside companion. With all the travel and life changes that have been happening around here lately burnout is real. Which is why I’m making myself take breaks now, every day. Because it’s really, really easy to work round the clock when you’re a one man show. Especially when you’ve got a lot to catch up on. But taking care of yourself should always be your number one priority.  So for the foreseeable future every day after lunch I’ll be backing up a book and a Cayman Jack Margarita to head down to the pool. Why? Because Vitamin D…

All opinions are mine alone. #CincoDeCayman #CollectiveBias If you’ve been following along on Instagram you’re well aware that I’m coming down from a truly gorgeous vacation to Tulum. Needless to say, yesterday was spent pretending that I was still on the beach with a cocktail in hand. More on that trip soon. It’s going to be a doozy – trust me. So stay tuned!  Lucky for me a Cayman Jack™ Margarita is the perfect no fuss solution for those post-vacation brain days. Especially since the majority of my kitchen is now in boxes since I move on Saturday! Yes. Life is crazy lately, and when it rains, it does indeed pour. Also, more on that to come as well. Can’t wait to take you guys on a home tour of the new place! It’s an amazing loft in a historic building with incredible light. I’m beyond excited for this new chapter of my life and equally as terrified.  But I digress. Back to the topic at hand. Cayman Jack Margarita is a handcrafted, premium prepared cocktail that blends authentic flavor with just the right bite. Meaning that I was able to…

Kentucky Derby Party Cocktail Ideas

One of the best parts about this time of year in Louisville, AKA Derby Season, happens to be all the parties that lead up to the most exciting two minutes in sports. So today I’m sharing Kentucky Derby Party Cocktail Ideas to let y’all join in on the fun no matter where you are.  I’ve teamed up with Ghirardelli to host a Derby party with a few other bloggers using some of their classic chocolates, as well as their latest addition Dark Chocolate Bourbon Caramel Squares. Because what better time to celebrate that launch than the Derby? Especially since they’re an official sponsor of the Derby this year. Chocolate, bourbon, and horse racing? Sign me up. Especially since those are a few of my favorite things.  I took a few of my favorite classic bourbon cocktails and then put a twist on them inspired by Ghirardelli chocolate squares. First up; a Salted Caramel Old Fashioned that pairs perfectly with their new Dark Chocolate Bourbon Caramel Squares. I whipped up salted caramel syrup to use in lieu of sugar cubes, and the taste is out of this world. After all, there are plenty of caramel notes in bourbon to begin with, and this…
