Tuesday Tip:
Instagram Like You’re on Vacation

how to, how to instagram, instagram tips, instagram tips and tricks, how to instagram like a pro

I know I can’t be the only one that feels like my Instagram game is SO much better when I’m traveling or on vacation than when I’m at home, right? After pretty much back to back travel the last few weeks I’ve noticed a couple of things I do differently when I’m gramming while on the road; both out of necessity (like exploring a new city), and because I feel more inspired when I’m outside my comfort zone. If you can relate, hopefully today’s tips on how to Instagram like you’re on vacation even when you’re at home will help you like they have me, or if you can’t relate click on through to see some snaps from my trip to NYC last week.

Explore

I’ll be the first to admit that whenever I’m at home I’m not 100% up for wandering around town, or trying new things – especially in this weather, but when I’m traveling I feel obligated to get my ass out of bed to get out there and see the city. My challenge to myself and to all of you is to explore your own neck of the woods more often. Whether that means walking to your favorite coffee shop, instead of driving, or grabbing dinner in a different neighborhood than you usually would.

Expirement

The best part of taking photos when I’m traveling is that the chances of people knowing me are drastically reduced, which means none of those awkward conversations of what you’re doing in the middle of the street, or why you’ve taken 75 photos of your plate of food. This also means that I’m a lot more likely to experiment with different angles, lighting, or subject matter. It’s just as easy to do at home though as well. Instead of taking your morning coffee shot from above find an interesting background and place your coffee in front of it, or take a photo of the coffee shop you’re in. Changing up your feed is a great way to attract new followers while keeping content fresh for your loyal followers.

Engage

Traveling means the chance to gain new followers in a new community that you may never have reached previously, and it’s easy, it’s organic, and it comes naturally. You’re posting about these new places you’ve tried out, or you’re checking out the feed of a restaurant you want to check out. But when you’re at home it’s not always as easy to engage and interact with people. There’s usually that awkward “I kind of know you, but I don’t know you” feeling in the back of your head, and here’s me saying don’t worry about it. Throw out any and all care that you may have about being “that person” on Instagram, especially if your feed is an extension of your brand, and interact and engage with your local audience.

  • Love these tips! It really is so much easier to come up with ideas when you’re in a new place. I feel like you see the things that locals will typically overlook because they see them everyday.

    • Couldn’t agree more! It’s so much easier to see beauty in the every day things when you’re in a new place. When you’re at home – it requires slowing down and enjoying the moments you take for granted!

This is so awesome that you did this! My favorite one is “Exploring”, it is funny how when you’re on vacation you’re like “OMG I have to see everything” when you could be doing the same at your home town/city! Great post Josh

    • Haha – same here! But back home I’m like.. “Oh, i’ve seen that 100 times.”
